Besides MySQL, your account also supports PostgreSQL databases, which some applications and frameworks prefer.
Create a PostgreSQL database
- In cPanel, open Databases → PostgreSQL Database Wizard.
- Step 1: enter a database name and click Next Step.
- Step 2: create a user with a strong password and click Create User.
- Step 3: tick ALL PRIVILEGES and click Make Changes.
As with MySQL, cPanel adds your username as a prefix, for example username_appdb.
Connection details
| Host | localhost |
|---|---|
| Port | 5432 |
| Database | e.g. username_appdb |
| User / Password | the user and password from step 2 |
Manage your data
- Databases → PostgreSQL Databases: list, delete and manage users.
- Databases → phpPgAdmin: a browser tool to view tables and run queries, similar to phpMyAdmin.
Not sure which to use? WordPress and most apps in Softaculous use MySQL. Only use PostgreSQL if your application asks for it.
