Which DNS records to add at your domain provider Print

  • 0

Your domain's DNS stays with your domain provider. To use it with HTN Cloud, you add a few records there. This page is a reference for every record you might need.

In the examples, replace yourdomain.com with your domain and 192.0.2.10 with your account's IP address. You'll find the IP address in your welcome email and in cPanel under General Information → Shared IP Address.

Website records (required)

TypeNameValue
A@192.0.2.10
CNAMEwwwyourdomain.com

Some providers don't accept a CNAME for www. In that case, add an A record for www with your IP address instead.

Email records (if your email is hosted with us)

TypeNameValue
Amail192.0.2.10
MX@mail.yourdomain.com, priority 0 (or 10)
TXT (SPF)@v=spf1 +mx +a +ip4:192.0.2.10 ~all
TXT (DKIM)default._domainkeyCopy it from cPanel → Email Deliverability
TXT (DMARC)_dmarcv=DMARC1; p=none;
  • Delete any other MX records, so all your email arrives at HTN Cloud.
  • A domain can have only one SPF record. If you already have one, for example for a newsletter service, combine them into one line instead of adding a second record.
  • Always copy the SPF and DKIM values shown in your cPanel. See How to set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for your domain.

Optional records

TypeNameValueLets you use
Aftp192.0.2.10ftp.yourdomain.com
Awebmail192.0.2.10webmail.yourdomain.com
Acpanel192.0.2.10cpanel.yourdomain.com

Using a separate email service?

If your email is with another provider, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, add only the website records. Keep your existing MX, SPF and other email records as they are.

About the cPanel Zone Editor

cPanel includes a Zone Editor, but your domain's live DNS is managed at your domain provider. Changes you make in the cPanel Zone Editor won't affect your domain. Always make DNS changes at your domain provider.

Using a proxy or CDN? If your DNS provider can proxy traffic (for example Cloudflare's orange cloud), keep the mail and ftp records set to DNS only.
